EA and DICE have been talking about a competitive scene for Battlefield 1 for almost a year now. Yet there is no real indication whether Battlefield Competitive will be a thing or not.
e-Sports are becoming more known day by day. In some countries, e-Sports is already so big that e-Sports players are just as famous as athletes who compete in the big competitions. For years the game series Battlefield has been trying to get in on the hype around the e-Sports. Without success that is. In Battlefield 4 it just didn’t work out and only a few matches were played/broadcasted. In Battlefield Hardline the 5 v 5 competitive scene was introduced. But as Battlefield is a large scale game, once again it went without proper success despite the likings of a small group. Other Battlefield titles? Either e-Sports wasn’t a thing yet or the title simply isn’t fit for it. But, EA Games and DICE said that Battlefield 1 would be a competitive title! A year later and we are still waiting on that promise, is it going to happen or not?
With the ‘In The Name of The Tsar’ DLC coming up EA Games and DICE promise us that there will be updates for the competitive scene included. As they said, Battlefield 1 will be a competitive title this year, meaning they have a few months left to keep their promise. If EA Games and DICE are serious about this then to do not only need to look at e-Sports itself, but also their Rental Server Program. A good match can only be played on closed servers with a lot of administration and spectating tools. The latter is already available but the admin tools are still in an early stage.
Do you think EA Games and DICE will eventually make Battlefield 1 the promised competitive title? Or is it once again, just a promise.
